Enforcement or management? Creating a culturally sensitive drug and alcohol management program
Many employers seek to employ an enforcement style approach to Drug and Alcohol Management in the workplace.Workforce participation for indigenous peoples trails non-indigenous peoples significantly. Substantially more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people than non-indigenous people report using drugs whilst employed. Any drug and alcohol management program implemented in the workplace that does not recognise the unique challenges of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in finding and maintaining employment, risks contributing to the disadvantage that surrounds lower workforce participation.
This presentation describes the important steps in crafting a program in the workplace that supports and educates the workforce whilst supporting the aim of employers to create and maintain a safe workplace.
