Getting it right at the start: importance of process evaluation

In 2014, the National Drug Research Institute at Curtin University were commissioned to review the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander alcohol and other drug treatment sector, to complement a wider review of alcohol and other drug prevention and treatment services for the Australian Department of Health. In addition to reviewing existing reports and submissions to the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples Drug Strategy, more than 60 stakeholders from Aboriginal community controlled and non-government organisations, and representatives from government departments were interviewed.

This presentation will focus on the findings from the study: including the treatment sector’s needs, gaps and priorities; planning for effective treatment service provision; and issues related to funding for treatment services.
