Professor Kate Conigrave is an Addiction Medicine Physician and a Public Health Physician. She treats people with alcohol or drug problems at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. Kate has been involved for many years in training medical and other health professionals. This has included through courses at the University of Sydney, and through training sessions for GPs and Aboriginal Alcohol and other Drug Workers. Since 2000 Kate has worked in partnership on research or training projects with Aboriginal services in several states and territories around Australia. Her research has had a focus on getting early help for people alcohol problems. Kate has published over 100 papers in scientific journals, and has received the senior scientist award from APSAD (the Australasian Professional Society on Alcohol and other Drugs). Kate has acted as consultant to the World Health Organization on alcohol screening and brief intervention. She was one of the six editors of the Handbook for Aboriginal Alcohol and Drug Work.
