The Australian Indigenous Alcohol and Other Drugs Knowledge Centre: supporting the workforce

Staying up to date with the latest research and developments in the alcohol and other drugs field can be a challenge for those in the health workforce. The Australian Indigenous Alcohol and Other Drugs Knowledge Centre is designed to assist with meeting this challenge.

Health is a holistic concept for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, so for alcohol and other drugs issues, comprehensive information on social and cultural determinants is also required.

The Knowledge Centre is an online web resource that brings together all the latest information on alcohol and other drugs that is relevant for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Its sections on social determinants, health and social impacts, social and emotional wellbeing and healing acknowledge the complexity surrounding alcohol and other drug use and aims to address these factors.

The Knowledge Centre provides publications, resources and other tools that are needed by health professionals, frontline workers, policy makers and researchers to inform their everyday efforts to make a positive difference to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes.

This presentation will highlight key information and the latest resources that provide an evidence-based way to support the health workforce. It will equip delegates with the confidence to easily obtain information to make their work timely and efficient and assist efforts to close the gap in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.
