Biography

An Anaiwan and Kamileroi man, Dugan recalls how, as a school boy in Armidale, he was given a signed copy of the first edition of her poems by Oodgeroo Noonuccal (Kath Walker) when she and Faith Bandler visited Armidale to campaign for the 1967 Referendum.  Dugan remembers
Now, an Anaiwan Elder and Australia Day Ambassador, Dugan advocates for reconciliation and peace, within his community and within broader multi-cultural Australia.
Dugan, who is blind, worked in Aboriginal communities for 40 years before joining New South Wales’ multicultural advisory board in 2014 to support refugees and migration. “I am an Aboriginal man but I wanted to do more.
